Gemini Wind Farm achieved
significant milestones during construction
OHVS platforms and 80 foundations
The two offshore high voltage stations (OHVS platforms) have been successfully installed at Gemini Wind Park that is being build 85 kilometers outside of the Groningen shore. Next to the OHVS platforms, 80 foundations have also been installed. The realisation of the large offshore wind project construction is proceeding as planned.
The OHVS installations were built in Hoboken, Belgium, and transported to Eemshaven. Deploying a heavy lift vessel, the 2,500-tonne platforms were installed in their final location at the wind farm. The platforms are connected to the Dutch power grid via export cables.
“This installation marks a significant milestone in the construction of our wind farm,” says Matthias Haag, CEO from Gemini. “This, together with the almost completed installation of the export cable, will allow us to connect with the TenneT electicity grid shortly.”
The construction of the wind park is in full swing. This year, Van Oord’s offshore installation vessel Aeolus and Swire Blue Ocean’s vessel Pacific Osprey will install the remaining 70 foundations for the project. In the same period, the cables that connect the turbines with the OHVS platforms will be installed.
The Siemens 4.0MW wind turbines will be placed in 2016, which will allow for the first generated power to reach the land.
