Close collaboration
This consortium of energy, technology, marine contracting, and engineering worked together to build a large-scale offshore wind park in the Netherlands. Northland Power led the project, with Van Oord as the main contractor for the installation and Siemens providing 150 wind turbines and maintenance services. HVC contributed renewable energy expertise from their contacts with Dutch provinces and municipalities.
Many other contractors and providers were involved in this major engineering feat. Utilizing state-of-the-art technologies, all parties worked closely together to deliver clean and efficient energy for the Netherlands - and for the world.
The shareholders
Gemini Wind Park is owned by four companies:
1. Northland Power (60%), a listed Canadian power producer.
2. Siemens (20%), a listed German technology firm.
3. HVC (10%), a Dutch sustainable waste- and energycompany
4. Alte Leipziger-Hallesche (10%), a German insurance company
The first three companies took part in the development of Gemini Wind Park from the beginning, Alte Leipziger-Hallesche acquired the shares in 2018 from ‘founding father’ Van Oord – the Dutch international dredging and offshore contractor.
The Gemini Supervisory Board consists of six members: two representing Northland Power and Siemens and two individual members for HVC and Alte Leipziger-Hallesche. This last shareholder is represented by wpd invest.
Managing the organisation
Throughout the different phases of the project, Gemini’s organisation changed alongside the needs and characteristics of these different phases. During construction there was a large focus on managing the fabrication and installation processes executed by the two main contractors. Already during construction the operational activities were set up in parallel to ensure a smooth start up of the operation and maintenance activities.
